Losing Power

I’m pretty sure a power failure is never fun for anyone. I’ve heard people complain about not having light, not being able to cook, not having television, or computers. We run into a unique set of problems in our house. First of all, Ashley has no understanding as to what is happening. She walks around flipping light switches and looking concerned. Then she really doesn’t get why I can’t just fix her any food she wants. There was one time Jason used a blow torch to heat up leftover macaroni and cheese because we got so desperate. Then if the power is out long enough, there is always the fear that the talker battery will go dead. I know that many people lived their entire life with no electricity and us going without it for just a little while, shouldn’t be a big deal. But I think we have really boxed ourselves in with our reliance on electrical products. I can’t imagine living without some of these things for even a day, much less a lifetime. I am thankful to live in a time in history that has so much convenience to offer us. I mean if I have to have a child who can’t talk; it sure is nice to be able to have a computerized device that can talk for her.  Originally posted April 2011
