A Day for Doctors Appointments
The kids had several different doctor check ups they needed to attend, all in the same town about an hour away. So I decided if I made them all on one day, and then just took them all out of school for the day that would be the easiest approach. I’ve done this before and although that day is difficult, it is certainly better than many trips. So today was the day, we started at the ENT for Josh, then all three kids had dental check ups, followed by all three going to the allergist. Three kids, seven doctor appointments, one day- multitasking at its best. All I can say is we survived. We discovered at the ENT that Josh needs a new ear tube, his right one is in bad shape. Part of me was excited thinking maybe this is causing part of the sleep problems and is fixable. The other part of me was disgusted because now I have another, more difficult trip to the doctor. Next at the dentist we discovered Josh has a chipped tooth in the back of his mouth, which is causing other problems, so now we need a dental procedure. Thankfully, I can do the ear and the dental on the same day. Having some time to spare before we went to the allergist, we decided to grab lunch and stop by the little free zoo they have in this town. The kids were happy to have some fun, free time. This lasted right up until Ashley climbed into the cage with a goose at the petting part of the zoo. I turned around for a second so Hailey could show me something, and she just hopped right over the gate. I say petting zoo because it was pretty open and they had hand sanitizer there, however, there was a sign that said “animals may bite”. And that goose did not look happy to see Ashley and started to come at her. Evidently, even Ashley understood the goose because she climbed over to a pig’s cage. We were all very scared, but quickly got her out of the area. I didn’t look at anything, but Ashley for the rest of the zoo. I’m not sure what she was thinking, we have been to a lot of zoos and she has never tried anything like that before today. We then did a quick trip to the mall, where we ran into a man dressed as a woman, always exciting with kids. We finally got to the allergist, just in time for Ashley to have a huge meltdown. Again, I’m not sure what went wrong, she usually handles transitions well. They all three have different allergy tests that need to be done at a later date. We got a snack and finally came home. I think we were all equally glad to be home. Now we have three appointments scheduled for Josh next week, but we don’t have another huge day like that with all three kids again for six months. And for that I am very thankful. Originally posted April 2011
