This is the last week of April and thus the last week of Autism Awareness month. I had hopes of posting a lot of blogs dealing with the subject of autism, statistics, and what it is like parenting a child of autism. Unfortunately, the month got away from me and I didn’t accomplish my goal quite the way I had hoped. For this week, I’m going to end April with an Autism Awareness bang. As far as the statistics go, there are all sorts of numbers out there: 1 in 110 or 1 in 91, etc, all that really matters is there are far too many people with autism out there, and that number seems to be increasing every year. I’m sure most of you have been touched by autism yourself: either your own child, a relative’s child, or a friend’s child, maybe all three. I love my daughter very much, autism and all, but I do see her struggle so much just to get through life. I can’t take that struggle away, all I can do is support her and try to make her life as functional and comfortable as possible. I try to surround her by loving and supportive people that will encourage and love her. My posts this week are going to discuss the many things I have learned from Ashley and autism. Awareness of what children with autism and their family are experiencing is the key to people and society as a whole being able to help and accept them.
And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:30-32
I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me Matthew 25:40
And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. Matthew 18:5
