Doctors, Doctors, and More Doctors - Part 1
So I feel like I have spent most of my hours at various doctor’s offices recently. I guess that is a slight exaggeration- but we have had many appointments. I will reveal the results one child at a time, starting with the easiest – Hailey.
Hailey has started receiving 3 allergy shots a week. She had to get the first set of shots at the allergist’s office, where they also adjusted her asthma and allergy medications because they just weren’t working well enough. While we were there, they said Hailey should shower every time she comes inside, and we should never open our windows. The poor child is allergic to everything. Now once a week we go to the health department where she receives her shots- then we sit there for 30 minutes waiting to see if she is going to have a bad reaction- Epipen on hand. So far she has done great, no reactions. This is good for her and me! And I guess 3 shots are better than being in school, in her mind. We are going to have to do this once a week for at least 6 months, depending on how well she handles it, and then we can go less often.
Hailey also went to the pediatrician last week for her 10 year check up, other than a slight adjustment to her ADHD medication, she is doing great! The doctor said she is healthy and growing perfectly in every way. He also said her vision is amazing, that she can see at 20 feet, what most people see at 13 feet. He suggested a career as a fighter pilot in the military. Now that is the kind of report I’d like to hear more often. I found the good vision thing shocking, since most people on my side of the family have terrible vision, and typically if there are bad genes to be found, our kids found them! The excellent vision keeps Hailey’s eye doctor appointment at the bottom of the list- where it has been for some time.
