Nut Week

Hailey is out of town at camp this week. While she gets to enjoy camp and learn more about God, here, at our house, we get to enjoy Nut Week. Nut Week is an annual event that occurs when Hailey leaves for camp. Since Hailey is allergic to nuts, we don’t ordinarily have them. Because she doesn’t have much of a reaction to peanut butter, it is safe to have around for the other kids. But we never make peanut butter cookies, or get peanut butter cereal, just as a precaution. She is highly allergic to other nuts, like cashews, so for her safety we don’t keep any nuts in the house – until she goes to camp. We get to enjoy 4 days of having nuts, eating nuts, and preparing snacks and meals with nuts. It is funny how you don’t really miss something, until you can’t have it. Next year Josh will be old enough to go to this camp too. It will be a tough choice between going to camp or staying home for Nut Week.  Originally posted June 2011
