Doctors, Doctors, and more Doctors - Part 3

There has been concern for some time that Josh is having trance seizures. A couple of weeks ago, we took him for his scheduled EEG. Of course, he didn’t have any during the test. The neurologist said he was 85% sure Josh wasn’t having seizures. When I asked, what is this trance state all these teachers and therapist have seen? He said Josh was just really tired. Then when I asked if there was any neurological reason why his sleep was so bad, he said he thought Josh was just depressed. So I went back to all the people who have seen this trance state, gave them the report, and asked their opinion. They all felt it is something more than just being tired. Last week, we went to the pediatrician to discuss these trance states and the continued sleep issues. He decided that we should get a second opinion and an evaluation for a sleep study. He wants us to see a doctor who will look at Josh’s entire history instead of just the EEG. He was concerned enough that the appointments were made right then while we waited. The good news is we finally have someone paying attention to what we are saying and trying to get some answers. The bad news is now between all three kids we have at least 15 doctor appointments between now and the first week of November, and unfortunately 3 of them are over 200 miles away. That is a packed schedule, but will certainly be worth it if we can get some answers. Originally posted October 2011
