Our Mini-Vacation

So we had a doctor appointment 200 + miles from home on Friday. Usually we just make this into a long day trip, but since it was spring break we decided to stay in a hotel. We thought it would be nice to give the kids a little mini-vacation. It gave us a chance to eat out a few times, and swim in the hotel pool. To be the extra fun Mom, I even picked a pool with a water slide, disregarding the bad reviews of the hotel. I haven’t decided if that was a mistake or not. The reviews were correct – the hotel needs some major attention, but the kids still had fun. It is always so intense and stressful to stay in a hotel with our very energetic kids. We got a really good price, so I went ahead and reserved a king suite, thinking the extra space to spread out would be better for everyone (particularly Jason and me). I was right; the space was good, and well used. When we got to the room the first thing we saw was a roach. And the second thing I noticed was the lock was broken, and our zip tie method was not going to work. The management did quickly fix the lock. We decided it was easier to live with bugs and dirt, than it would be to move the kids to a different room or hotel. We called it one step above camping. The kids loved everything, and really didn’t care that it was not what I envisioned. Overall the trip went well, and the kids had fun and behaved. It was not easy keeping Ashley content in the hotel from 4:00 in the morning when she got up for the day, until the pool opened at 8:00. She did destroy a shower curtain during that time. She also poured salsa in my lap at lunch, which prompted me to order a Margarita. And there was her meltdown in the middle of the sporting goods store. But still that is only four abnormal incidents over the course of 48 hours. I’m calling this mini-vacation a success! Oh and the really good news – after 12 years of complaining that Ashley doesn’t sleep, the doctor prescribed an actually sleep aid, not just a medicine that may cause drowsiness. Hopefully, she will not have a paradoxical reaction to the medication. I will let you all know more about that later. Like us on Facebook Originally posted March 2012
