We often have people comment how we are doing such a great job raising our children, or say things such as you are just extraordinary parents, I could never handle the special needs that your children have. I don’t see us as particularly extraordinary; we are just doing our best to get through each day. And as far as people thinking they can’t do what we do, there’s not a lot of choice in the matter. We are doing the best with what we have been given, as I suspect most parents would. We have moments where we make excellent decisions and moments that we later regret, and most of our moments fall somewhere in between those two extremes. Today, I ran across this verse in my devotions:
“In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’” Luke 17:10
This verse is so simple and so true, God gives us all purposes to fulfill, and it is our job to do what He asks of us. When we choose to do what God asks of us, it does not make us extraordinary, it just makes us obedient. Sometimes we are more obedient than other times, but we strive to do what God asks of us each day.
